Looking back on my time spent with my daughter, there are countless moments that stand out, but one particular day, February 21, 2020, remains etched in my heart. It was a typical day at work, filled with the usual hustle and bustle of grading essays and preparing lessons. Little did I know that this day would bring a warmth and joy that would brighten not just my office, but many following work days.
On that day, my daughter was dropped off at my office by her mother. As she entered the office, her presence immediately transformed the space. Her curiosity filled the room, creating an atmosphere of happiness that was palpable. While I sat at my desk, engrossed in the task of grading essays, she made herself comfortable, watching one of her favourite cartoons at the time, My Little Pony, on my desktop computer. The sight of her, so engrossed in her own world, brought a smile to my face and made the mundane tasks of the day seem lighter.
Her presence not only made the office feel warmer but also more joyful. The innocence with which she watched her cartoon, the occasional giggle that escaped her lips, and the way she would look up at me all contributed to creating a sanctuary of sorts within my office. It was as if, for those few hours, the stress and worries of life melted away, replaced by the simple, pure joy of being in my daughter’s company.
Over time, this routine became a cherished part of my day. For a long while, she would come daily and either sit in my office or, on some days, join me in my classroom. She would sit quietly, colouring in printed pictures while I finished teaching.
I miss those days very much. The memories of her sitting at my desk, the sound of her laughter, and the way she would excitedly show me her latest colouring masterpiece, are moments I hold dear. They are a testament to the bond we share and the joy that comes from spending time together.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have had those moments with her, grateful for the way she brightened my days, and grateful for the memories that continue to warm my heart.
